Looking for a camping trip in the desert but with a little more rockhounding and a little less Burning Man? Then we’ve got a trip coming up for you, Reno Rockhounds! We’re headed out to the southern end of the Monte Cristo Range, in the opposite direction of Black Rock but no less Nevada desert-y, we assure you! This site is between Coaldale Junction and Tonopah and will be a camping trip going from this Friday, August 31st, to Monday, September 3rd. Further directions and the location of the campsite can be found in your August Conglomerate. We’ll be leaving camp at 8am each morning to head to collection sites for agate, jasper, and rhyolite mostly with a few other things thrown in. If you’re particularly interested in agate come prepared to do some hard rock mining, but there will be material on the surface as well. As usual with our camping trips, there will be a potluck on Saturday night at 6pm so bring some food to share, lots of water for the daytime, your usual rockhounding tools, and maybe a decked out bicycle if you’re feeling adventurous!
